Michalis Mavrovouniotis is a Special Research Scientist at KIOS Resarch and Innovation Center of Excellence, University of Cyprus. Before, he worked as a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Nottingham Trent University, U.K., as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre of Computational Intelligence, De Montfort University Leicester, U.K. and as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Computer Science, University of Leicester, U.K.

He received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Leicester, U.K., in 2008, the M.Sc. degree in Natural Computation from the University of Birmingham, U.K., in 2009, and the Ph.D degree in Computer Science from the University of Leicester, U.K. in 2013.

His research interests include evolutionary computation, swarm intelligence, memetic computing, combinatorial optimization problems, heuristics and metaheuristics, artificial neural networks, computational intelligence in dynamic and uncertain environments and relevant real-world applications. He has several publications in top journals with high-impact factor and high-profile conferences. He was the winner of the Microsoft Best Project Price for his research in “Ant Colony Optimization in Dynamic Environments”. Some of his recent papers have been nominated for the best paper awards. He contributed on several research projects funded by EPSRC UK and EU ERDF (total of 1.5 million GBP).

He is the Vice-Chair of the IEEE Task Force on Evolutionary Computation in Dynamic and Uncertain Environments, a Member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He successfully organised and chaired several special sessions in international conferences. He serves as a programme committee member in many conferences and as a reviewer for several top journals.
